Moms2B is a collaborative effort between Wright State University, Dayton Children’s Hospital, and Omega Community Development Corporation to combat Infant and Maternal Mortality rates by providing community-based education and peer support to expectant mothers in Montgomery County. This program is an extension of the Moms2B program started in Franklin County through OSU and was officially launched in Montgomery County early in 2023. The program is carried out primarily through Sister Circle sessions where the Moms2B partners and education specialists lead conversations over a multitude of topics, such as breast-feeding support, labor and delivery education, co-parenting techniques, fatherhood support, self-care routines, parenting topics, nutrition education, child development practices, and many other conversation pieces. The group meets weekly in the same location at Omega Baptist Church (1821 Emerson Ave, Dayton OH) to create rhythms of consistency and trust for the participants in the community. Due to the success of the initial Sister Circle, which meets on Thursdays from 11 am to 1 pm, the program has been able to expand its hours to better support mothers who work full time by offering an evening session as well on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 pm.
Omega CDC partners with Moms2B to provide consistent support at each session, giving pregnant and new moms a chance to connect with maternal and family coaches. These coaches assist participants in setting meaningful goals and serve as partners in accountability.
Moms2B has been proven to be successful in supporting mothers and fathers and has seen consistent growth in the number of regular attendees over the two years since its launch in 2023, with an average attendance of 7-10 mothers and fathers every session. The program is open to any mother currently pregnant in Montgomery County, and mothers can stay in the program until their baby’s first birthday, at which point they will graduate from the program. The mothers can continue to participate in the program as either Mom Ambassadors, who will help to recruit new mothers to join the group, or they can re-enroll in the program when they become newly pregnant. With every session a mother or father attends they receive diapers and wipes as well as food support. Moms2B also supports their participants by providing donated baby clothes and items to prepare the mothers with everything they need for when they have the baby. If you are a community partner and would like to share your resources at a Moms2B session as a guest speaker or if you would like to donate gently used items and clothing, please contact either the Program Director, Dr. Janeece Warfield, at
