Hope Zone Partner Spotlight – Preschool Promise
04/02/2025Preschool Promise is making significant strides in early childhood education through its “Ready to Read” initiative, supported by Hope Zone Promise Neighborhood. This program is aimed at preparing children in the Hope Zone for kindergarten success. With a focus on building early literacy skills, it provides intensive coaching for preschool teachers, classroom support, and resources for families to encourage at-home learning. Last month as many as 193 children and 25 adults were served.
The follow are some of the ways that the program is showing positive impact:
100 families are receiving weekly literacy tips during child pickup times.
100 families have attended the Ready to Read Literacy Nights
8 families are actively participating in the Families and Mentors program, building stronger connections and literacy habits.
36 Little Libraries and Book Bins have been established across the community, making books more accessible to children and families.
130 families are now enrolled in the Beanstack reading platform, with 1,400 books read from October 2024 to present.
One of the key highlights of their work is the Little Read Literacy Nights, hosted at Fairview Pre K-6. These evenings are teacher-led and designed to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences for families. Each event includes a variety of interactive literacy activities to foster a love for reading in young children. Families also receive books, helping to encourage daily reading habits.
With continued support and collaboration from community partners, Preschool Promise’s “Ready to Read” initiative is playing an important role in laying a strong foundation for young scholars in the Hope Zone. By empowering parents, equipping teachers, and inspiring children, this initiative is setting students on a path to long-term academic success and opening doors to brighter futures.
