Partner Spotlight-Early Intervention School-Based Therapy (SBT) – Dayton Children’s Hospital

06/04/2025

We are proud to highlight the Early Intervention School-Based Therapy (SBT) program at Dayton Children’s Hospital is an essential partner in our Hope Zone initiative. This impactful program serves students and families at Fairview and EJ Brown schools, with a special focus on those identified through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Many of students face emotional and behavioral challenges that can impact their learning and well-being.

Through trauma-informed, resilience-centered care, full-time therapists provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy year-round, even during the summer, to ensure continuity of support for high-risk students. Their presence in schools creates a safe, consistent environment where healing and growth can take root.

The results are powerful. One young student who once visited the nurse daily with physical complaints now proudly manages his anger and completes full school days. Another student recently celebrated 13 consecutive weeks without a behavioral incident, thanks to consistent support around anger management. A third child, coping with bullying and stress at home, found a safe space to share emotions for the very first time.

These stories remind us of the SBT program’s vital role in nurturing emotional health, strengthening academic engagement, and helping our young people thrive. We are grateful for this partnership and its deep impact on the lives of Hope Zone youth and families.
