Empowering Community Change with ABCD Training

11/01/2024

On October 11, the Hope Zone Community Engagement Religious Organization Committee (CERO) hosted an impactful training session on Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). This strategic approach empowers communities to drive sustainable, community-led development by recognizing and mobilizing often-overlooked local assets.

Reverend Damon Lynch, an emeritus faculty member of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute at DePaul University, facilitated the ABCD training. Reverend Lynch, renowned for his work on the ABCD approach, has shared his insights with countless organizations nationwide and advocates for community-led problem-solving and development.

The 45 participants brought their unique perspectives, creating a rich atmosphere for discussion and collaboration. Brian Black, our talented graphic note taker, visually captured the event’s ideas and conversations, allowing participants to reflect on the creative, impactful exchanges in a powerful new way.

The insights and momentum built on this day are only the beginning. As we look ahead, two more sessions are scheduled for November 8 and December 2 to dive deeper into neighborhood-specific strategies and plan development.
